2007bc were supporting Stuart Pearson at Cadwell Park last weekend. Stuart’s race report is below:
“Although I have been to Cadwell Park many many times, I can honestly say that I have never driven a car that devours the course at such speed and verosity as my G40 race car – it’s in a different world to that of ‘road-going’ sports cars. I think it’s also the first time that I’ve seen Cadwell Park bathed in sunshine, with air temperatures at over 23deg and track temperatures even higher.
Nevertheless, after a steady days practising on Saturday, we were ready to hit the track on Sunday firing on all cylinders. I really felt that I was getting to grips with the car now, and, even though the qualifying was just a 20 minute session I managed to qualify well, meaning Row 3 for the first race and 4th on the grid for the second. These are my best qualifying results to date in the G40.
Race 1 began with me finding a gap and sitting in 5th place, I was battling hard with polesitter Huyton (after an earlier spin saw him dropping back from the lead-pack). Huyton had boxed himself in behind one of the backmarkers, and out of frustration of no longer being in the top three tried to go between the two of us into a non existent gap. The result was Huyton became airborne and I was sent on to the grass at 100mph. With one of the biggest impacts of my career (you don’t realise how big the rumble strips are at Cadwell!) I had no option to retire on the spot with a damaged wheel and suspension.
With only an hour between races, Reflex Racing had just an hour working on the car to get it ready for race 2. Although the mechanical components were checked over and found to be safe, there was no time to reset the cars setup and alignments, but it was pleasing to still manage to finish in 7th place overall.
I made a great start as the flag dropped at the beginning of Race 3, and starting from 7th on the grid my team-mate, myself and another racer went three abreast into turn one. There was contact at the front of the field, and I threaded way my way through to 4th position but this was to be short lived. Mechanical gremlins struck again and the car had to be retired midway through the race. At this point we’re unsure if the earlier off caused un-seen damage.
It was a disappointing end to a very long and hot day but we have shown that we have the pace and are a force to be reckoned with in the future races.
As usual, thanks to all our sponsors for their support. Without you we would not be able to compete.”
Alongside the Ginetta GT5 Challenge was the Trackday Trophy – a new contest designed to bring regular Trackday drivers into ‘low-cost’ motorsport.
